Well, I've been off work with a hurt shoulder since July 6th. I'd say I needed the time off but this is not the way I had hope for. I pulled, or really popped my right shoulder playing volleyball on our family vacation. I have been now to 4 doctors and 4 prescriptions, not a whole lot better yet. I go back to the doctor today and probably set for MRI soon after. Anyway, I hope it get better soon, For I am really anticipating hunting seasons soon to come.
I always get ready by squirrel hunting in September. Lots of walking, but fun with wife, father-in-law, and occasionally some friends. Some different places here in Arkansas, North and Northeast. Hopes for a better season this year than last. Weren't many squirrels until late then no time to hunt.
The next season, and usually the one that puts the meat in the freezer, is deer season. I try to take a couple of weeks off in October and November to ensure I have time and a good place to put the meat in the freezer. One, big difference this year I hope.
I have for the last three years put in much thought and a bit of leg work in the dream of hunting bear in Arkansas. Native bears here were all but lost about 20 years ago or more. Game and fish saw a chance to save them and also reintroduced wild bears from the north to other areas here in the state. well to say the least they have thrived enough to hunt in most areas and in the area I hunt, they have grown in population enough that a previous quota has been removed. I'd have to say my chances are better now than ever.
I will this year, with all shoulder hopes alive, hunt my 2 weeks off in October and 2 weeks in November for bear here in Arkansas. Not to say that I won't shoot a deer should the opportunity present itself. Once again, I hope to share camp with family and friends. Share hunting stories and tales(never lies, just great embellishments of the truth) with anyone that cares to sit and share coffee, a beer or a soda. And with a little luck, Mom and father-in-law will bag their deer and I will get a deer and chalk up the experience of a first in bear hunting.
Here's to a better shoulder, good times and more memories to come. I can't wait!
